Pacific Echo Cremant - $17 and a tad disappointing
Back in the day, I always enojyed Pacific Echo's (previously Scharffenberger - now of chocolate fame) sparkling wine from Northern Cal's Anderson valley.
I tried PE's Cremant the other day. I assumed that it would be styled after the Cremants of Burgundy, Alsace, etc. Hmm not so much.
From the top:
It has a great color - copper (gold with a slight rust undertone)
bubbles are steady and fair sized.
The aroma was quite faint. My nose was able to pick out some Golden Delish Apple but not much else.
The taste was, shall we say the disappointing part of the experience. It was off-dry, but lacked enough acidity to bouy up the sugars. My tongue seemed to tell my brain that it was flabby (and for a sparkling wine, that's saying something).
PE Cremant does offer an intriguing taste of 'Cream Soda.' However, the wine's flavors are short lived and not terribly open to food. Of course this is all my own, humble opinion. Others seem to like it...
