Les Genets Red

Southern Rhone wines are the value red wines from France at the moment.

Today's representative was:  Chusclan Les Genets, Cotes du Rhone Villages, 2000 ($13).

It didn't really dazzle me.  I thought this wine was nice, yet it competes in a really tough (& crowded) price category.

For this reason, it rings in at two stars

Medium intensity indigo in color
Restrained aromas of red fruits, pepper and ripe tomato
In the mouth it was medium-bodied with subtle tannins.
Earthy flavors mixed with dried cherries
