Not Quite Chenin Blanc
When a wine is priced under $10, I am almost always very forgiving. I don't look for a profound wine tasting experience. I look for something simple and unobtrusive.
I had high hopes for Dry Creek Vineyard Chenin Blanc (2002, $8) from Clarksburg California. I thought it might be a nice little wine, much like the Baron Herzog Chenin Blanc (also about $8).
Dry Creek Vineyard Chenin Blanc, Clarksburg, '02 ($8)
Medium gold color with some visible CO2 bubbles
Scents of honey, dried apricots and apple cider
It's slightly crisp in the mouth, but overall a little weighty. A noticeably high alcohol concentration and an oddly metallic finish.
