dtour dsign
Dtour is the latest wine that attempts to address the seemingly age old question: What would happen if decent wine were offered in the bag-in-box format? I've mused about the potential for bag-in-box wine in the past. I've also sampled the 'wine' found in this 4-months-in-the-fridge-friendly format (it wasn't pleasant).
The partners, D (chef Daniel Boulud, sommelier Daniel Johnes and winemaker Dominique Lafon), did something incredibly cunning - they kept the concept of bag-in-box wine, but they radically changed its appearance. Now, none dare call this 'wine in a box.' Rather it is referred to as tubular wine. The D's also seem to have all their ducks in a row vis-a-vis marketing: Big Parks blessed it as "Incroyable!"
To me, if indeed the Mâcon-Villages Chardonnay inside is palatable, this would be the perfect wine to offer as a by-the-glass house white. I also think it would be a great wine with which to recruit new wine lovers. Imagine taking a couple of tubes to a Nascar race (yes, I'm serious), football game (again, serious) or to an after-work watering hole. Nothing says 'novelty' like a bucket 'o French vin. And I have nothing against novelty, so long as the wine in the tube isn't an abomination.
Would you try this wine? if you owned a shop/restaurant, how would you introduce it to customers?

Yes I would. I already sell the Cuvee de Pena in the box. It has been open since October 29th and still going strong!
PS How's the snow?

Big Fluffy White Flakes are falling right now (outside). Is Cuvee de Pena part of the Daniels-group? Or does someone else produce it?
