$7 White Bordeaux
Can you believe a an actual White Bordeaux with grape varietal information on the label? Can you say, "Consumer Friendly Wine?"
Marquis de Chasse is imported by Vineyard Brands, which owns a very solid portfolio. This simple white wine can be thought of as a "beginner's" White Bordeaux. It's 50% Sauvignon Blanc and 50% Semillon (FYI: all white Bordeaux wine is comprised of these two grapes).
Just $.02 from me: This is a fine strategy for marketing budget/value-priced wine from France. A few weeks ago I reviewed another value-priced French wine, "Le Bicyclette Merlot." It seemed as if this wine was created as an attempt to mimic the Aussie brand "Yellow Tail." In my opinion, the end result was something that was rather generic, not at all French, or even European. So, to Marquis de Chasse I say, "Bravo, for being legible, affordable and true to your roots."
The Skinny
Marquis de Chasse Bordeaux Blanc Reserve, '02 ($7)
Very pale straw yellow in color
Simple, distinct scents of citrus & herbs
Balanced flavor with a quick, yet pleasant finish
*** (3 stars out of 5)
Try it with a veggie omelet, grilled cheese sandwiches or a quick pasta dish
I'm still trying to find a good red wine.
