Simple Sal(entino)
Salice Salentino wines come from Puglia, Italy's heel. As with many Southern Italian wines, Salice Salentino is relatively inexpensive. Historically, wine of Italy's South, hasn't been too well received. And rightfully so - as much of Italy's wine-lake is filled from jugs produced here.
More recently, however, Puglia, among other Southern regions, has been producing a lot of damn fine wine. This weekend I uncorked a $9 Salice Salentino Rosso.

Grapes - Negroamaro (80%), Malvasia [a white grape] (20%)
Dusty red in color with a brick-red rim
Spicy, woody, and earthy scents. Also some fruit - ripe, black cherry and black plum
Fairly light body with 'narrow' tannins along with tart fruit flavors. Overall simple, yet pleasant to drink
