Fun with Herpetology: Suriname Toad
Pipa pipa (AKA Suriname Toad) is the most unique representative of its family. What family is that you ask? The flat, tongueless, back-birthing frog family (Pipidae). Some fun facts:
- The female gives birth to fully-formed froglets that developed on her back in little pockets covered in skin
- Strictly aquatic
- No tongue!
- Endemic to Suriname
Not quite endemic to Suriname, we have 'em ugly fellows here in Brazil too ;)
