Torres Tempranillo

2001 Torres "Coronas" Tempranillo ($11)
Clear, medium deep ruby fading to a pale rose rim. Clean, youthful, intense nose of nutmeg, black plums and cherries, tobacco and herbs. Dry with medium acid and medium-high but soft tannins. Medium body with a medium intense, fleshy palate similar to the nose. Medium-high alcohol with medium length. Good quality blend of 86% tempranillo and 14% cabernet sauvignon from Catalunya. A solid Torres red to be drunk now and over the next 4 years.

Hi Beau,

I happened to open a bottle of this wine last week. I thought it was good , but not, in my opinion, Torres' best red in this range. For that I would go for their Atrium merlot, or if I had something to celebrate (and some extra cash!) the Mas la Plana cabernet.
