Anti- or Apathy?

I received this email from poppingcorks.com:

In a recent PoppingCorks.com survey, 62% of 717 participants said that they were not aware of the difficulties facing the French wine industry and 75% reported that they were not at all concerned.

Toronto

ON (PRWEB) June 8, 2005 - A recent survey conducted at PoppingCorks.com suggests that a majority of people are not aware of the difficulties facing the French wine industry nor are they concerned.

"The results of the Popping Corks survey indicate that France isn’t any longer the center of the wine world for North Americans," said industry expert Tom Wark (http://www.warkcommunications.com).  "We are happily exposed to and focused on wines from across that globe. However, amongst those who are aware of the French wine industry’s current difficulties but aren’t concerned, I think we are seeing residual affect from the ill will that resulted from the run-up to the war in Iraq."

I must say I've got another take on those who are aware of France's wine difficulties and don't care about them:  Apathy.  Most of the 'new' wine drinkers that I meet, drink wine primarily from Australia and the U.S.  So, I believe, when they hear about France's problems, they just don't care because they don't really drink French wine.  Perhaps there is some anti-French sentiment to be found amongst these folks.  I just don't buy the "Freedom Fry" argument for the whole lot of them.
