WBW#11: Get Off!

Wbw11_2

The institution that has become WineBloggingWednesday returns on 6 July, 2005 and will be hosted by little 'ol me.  Get ready to Get Off! (dry).  You may select a red, white, rosé, or bubbly.  Your selection can be from anywhere on the planet.  However, it must meet one criteria; it must be neither dry nor sweet.  In other words, your wine must be off-dry.  What does this mean?  Click below for a helpful 'dryness scale.'

Wbw11scale

Somewhere between "dry as the outback" and "sweet as a chocolate-caramel-nougat bar" lies the elusive, slightly sweet region known as, "off-dry."  Would a Tawny Port qualify?  No; too sweet.  What about a Sancerre?  Nope; too dry.  Look to a California Chenin Blanc.  Look to a German Riesling.  Heck, you might even look to a superduper ripe (and allegedly dry) Aussie Shiraz.  Your chosen wine will be at once both a little dry and a little sweet.  So pick something off-dry and tell us just where on the universal dry/sweet scale you wine falls.  And most of all, be creative and have fun.

On or before 6 July, email me or send a trackback to this post.  Shortly thereafter, I'll post a collection of all our little off-dry discoveries.

Cheers!

Man, I should've picked up more wines in Germany. Halbtrocken/feinherbs all over the place. Ah well.

Well WBW is such an important event, perhaps you can jaunt on over to Deutschland and pick some up before July 6!? :)

Hopefully, you can track down an off-dry gem locally.

Cheers,

Sam

i can see i am going to have trouble with this one.
i might have to pop back for advice.
i am assuming there are other things that fit the bil other than the 3 you have mentioned?

Howdy Sam,

Any wine, any color - as long as it falls somewhere between "dry" and "Sweet."

Moscato d'Asti could work. You also might consider an off-dry Champagne (confusingly labeled "Extra Dry" or "Demi Sec"). Does this help?

Cheers,
