Hugel Jubilee
2001 Hugel Riesling "Jubilee" ($38)
Clear, pale lemon fading to a pale watery rim. Clean, youthful, medium intense (more closed than expected?) nose of quince, apple, earthy wet stones and floral peach. Dry, with crisp acidity and medium body. Palate is more intense than the nose, with flavors similar to the aromas - plenty of spicy stone fruits, earth, minerals, and flowers. Medium alcohol, with long length. Very good quality Alsatian style riesling, with a firm structure and a long life ahead of it. Can drink now, but will soften over the next 3 years, and will drink well for another 10.
