Shake it like a white boy/girl
As a lad growing up in rural southwestern Utah, I developed a pronounced aversion to country-pop, Slayer, and Richard Marx (such were the dominant music cliques in my high school). What did I do? I started listening to 80's/early 90's 'black' music - Hip-hop (Public Enemy, Eric B. & Rakim, Boogie Down Productions) and R&B/Soul (New Edition, Keith Sweat, Al B. Sure).
In the summer of 1989 I discovered an average R&B-pop group called EU. The band's music was largely forgettable; with one exception - the song, Shake it Like a White Girl. This song was one of the first to make me jump/slide/wiggle/squirm in the privacy of my bedroom.
Since those days, It has been the rare tune that induced me into shaking it like a white boy. Enter British soul vocalist (formerly electronica artist) Jamie Lidell. He has been described thusly:
“a 21st century reincarnation of Little Richard” with “a soul voice fried in honey like Sly Stone or Prince, and a beatboxing talent to make Muhammad Ali quake in his Everlast”
This is the perfect music for gettin jiggy whilst cookin some dinner and sippin some wine. Listen to a few tracks off the album Multiply (also available on iTunes) and try to hold your booty still. My money says you'll be shimmying a little something like this:
Listen now. Shake it later.
For some reason...I'm left thinking about saltines, Ritz, graham and oyster...but I can't quite put my finger on it.
Haha!

I'll check out Jamie Lidell, but you remind me that my favorite EU song was "Da Butt" (as in "Doin' Da Butt") When I was a college DJ back in the late 80s I'd play them all the time!
