Welcome to our [blog]:

Seeing as how my tasting line-up is set to pause at the moment (hey Bill, I too have a Morellino in the queue), I had some time today to peruse the online wine world outside the blogosphere.  I came upon some interesting, confusing and mildly disturbing morsels.

Looky2Saying it doesn't make it so I
I found two sites using the word 'blog;'  yet neither site appears to actually be a blog.  First the, "[yellow tail]: blog" - aside from the mildly annoying [usage]: of brackets and colons, the blog is frozen in time.  The date the [blog]: seized up is 06/20/05.  And on this date, some Boston College students proudly displayed their devotion to [yellow tail]:

"We're sending you a sampling of our [yellow tail] experience from our senior year at Boston College. We hope you'll appreciate our devotion to your product :)"

[Ack.]

This is an example of both poor understanding and execution of blogging.  Not that the [tail] needs any assistance from its blog, as they spend 150 million bucks on marketing the roo label.

Saying it doesn't make it so II
I noticed a somewhat cryptic press release for the Secret Sommelier.  I visited the site and immediately noticed the sub-header, "The Blog Site For Wine Lovers."  A further click into the About Us page told me that

"By incorporating cutting-edge technology, such as pod casts, and video blogs, Secret Sommelier will enhance the interactivity wine lovers can experience through the site and gain a thorough understanding of the industry."

Hmm.

Now I'm not here to take potshots at the Secret Sommelier. However, this site doesn't feel like a blog.  I don't identify with the topics.  It appears to be another glossy targeted towards the 'jet set' crowd.  Perhaps it's just me.  Tell me what you think.  And, yes, I did enter to win the Jeroboam of 1982 Ch. Montrose.

I think I read a press release on the SS. I didnt come away from the site thinking it was a blog as we know it. Throwing a handful of RSS buttons to the screen does not a blog make. It has the feel of a wine content website...

Oh and did you see the details about the 'bloggers' three of them an MW, some secret wine waiter and 'Sir Merlin Sereld Victor Gilbert Hay, 24th Earl of Erroll, 25th Lord Hay, 24th Lord Slains, 12th Bt (Moncreiffe of that Ilk), 28th Hereditary Lord High Constable of Scotland, 32nd Chief of The Hays'

i ask you...

Yes I don't understand the whole title thing. I can't see myself identifying with the Earl of Such and Such..
