Summer Top 5
The recent fork-jab inducing top 10 wines ordered during '05 in US restaurants got me thinking. What are the top 5 summer wines I've sampled since the summer equinox (6/21)? Here they are - let's let Casey count 'em down:
- Hirsch 'Heiligenstein' Riesling 2005 (imported by Skurnik Wines)
- Marquis de la Tour Rose (imported by Palm Bay Imports)
- Hidalgo 'La Gitana' Manzanilla Sherry (Never tried Sherry? - you're really missing something)
- Principiano 'Sant' Anna' Dolcetto d'Alba 2004 (imported by Vias)
- Högl 'Ried Schön' Smaragd Grüner Veltliner 2005 (imported by Winemonger)
Tell me - do you have a top 5/top 3/top 10 for summer '06? We're also accepting long-distance dedications.

I think the Tres Ojos rosé takes the cake this summer. But I've also enjoyed Lindemans Bin 65 Chardonnay.
Coming in at number 3 is all the good beer I've drunk. All of it. :)

1) 2005 Dveri-Pax Eisenthur: Slovenian Pinot Grigio/Furmint blend. Coolest packaging, label, and bottle as well. I love everything about this wine. Their Sauvignon Blanc is awesome, too.
2) 2004 Whidbey Island Winery Siegerrebe: an off-dry wine from grapes grown on the Puget Sound. Smells so pretty and tastes so yummy. A joy to drink and about as local as you can get.
3) 2005 Hofer Gruner Veltliner: a one-liter chug-a-lug jug with a bottle cap top. What's not to love?

Man, Casey looks great! I thought this was his pic here
I had a fun summer 10-pack--or was it a full case?
But I will add this for you Beau since you are a sherry fan: La Cigarrera, a manzanilla from Sanlucar de Barrameda. Yummmy! Try with gambas...
