I am astounded at the success. And truly amazed with the enthusiasm and gusto, not to mention generosity, that participants demonstrated in the first Euro Blogging By Post ‘blog-happening'.
With little notice, in the height of the summer holiday season, 14 food bloggers spent a weekend creating a small food parcel and, with no guarantee that they would receive anything in return, posted their gift off to another. To heighten the surprise they did not know who was sending them a parcel. It was all so much fun.
I have a list of a further ten interested parties and I know that some of the participants have recruited more for the next ‘foodie off-liner’ – EBBP2, set for the 24th September. This is what I love about the blog-o-sphere – that subset of the internet that is now occupying so much of my online time – the sense of camaraderie. This online culture, spreading off-line with events such as EBBP and other off-liners, has such a dynamic feel it makes the ‘normal’ internet seem so staid and unexciting. Long may we rule!
I would just like to point out that EBBP is not really an original idea – it was inspired by a similar endeavour set by Bakingsheet in America. The concerns that ‘Do you know this person?’ and ‘Is she a crazy blogger’ never crossed my mind. But in regards to the crazy bit – ‘yes’ is the answer!

Amid legislation and education efforts, advocacy groups like NARAL have yet to tackle the problem on the scale of search-engine giants like Google, but “this is a priority for us,” Miller said.
