Hola Sandy! Great post :) I am originally from Panama, here the term -pepita- is used for -roasted cashew nuts-. It literally means "little seed". For most people here in Panama, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds and other seeds are only food for the pet birds :)
I learned to love pumpkin seeds when living in Mexico,...and then in California.

Melissa, thanks for your translation of the word "pepita", I've seen it on packages of pumpkin seeds and in recipes, but never looked it up. With trying to stick to a macrobiotic food plan, I eat a lot of things that other people think are bird food or (in the case of whole oats) for horses! That's probably why the animals are so healthy.
